1828 John became a Mormon (LDS) and emigrated to Salt Lake City. The U.S.A. 1860 census gave J.C. MORRIS aged 32 and his wife Elizabeth both born in Wales together with Sarah aged 7 born Nebraska and Mary 5, William 3 and Issac 1 all born Utah.

It was said that Thomas was a very hard working man. When out ploughing, he would take a spade with him so that while the horses were resting he could continue working.
