The gap is probably where Robert lived.

Robert, who was the youngest son of nine children, lived all his life in Newport. At the age of 22 he was a carpenter and living at Raglan Street. His oldest brother, John, was a printer, another, Walter was a ship steward and others were tailors.

At the age of 24 Robert married Elizabeth STOWELL in Holy Trinity Parish Church, Pillgwenlly, Newport.

As can be seen, the rest is a development of ugly flats.

Elizabeth Ann STOWELL was born in June 1858 at Prothero's Row, Newport, the third of four children, to John STOWELL, who came from Shipham in Somerset, and his wife Mary Ann who's maiden name had been BROWN. Mary came from Pill, which was important as a piloting centre for the nearby port of Bristol. She had four younger brothers and two younger sisters.

In October 1883 Elizabeth married Robert at the Parish Church in Pillgwenlly, Newport and then lived at 7 Bolt Street in Newport. Their first son was Stuart Henry followed by another son and four daughters.

By 1891 Robert was a general labourer and then worked in the dockyard. At the age of 37 he caught tuberculosis and died at Raglan Street in the January of 1897.

Ten years later, Elizabeth married Walter LeVESCONTE who was a coal hewer.
In November 1943 Elizabeth died at Coronation Street, Blaina.
